Personality & Traits

General Overview Nejim was born 28 years after the beginning of the Cardassian Occupation of Bajor and like most Bajorans, he became tougher and rougher around the edges than Bajoran's prior to the Occupation.

Being half Cardassian, Nejim found it extremely difficult to comprehend and process not only what had happened to his Mother but that his Father was guilty of so many atrocities.

Prior to his encounter with the Orb of Change and Prophecy, Nejim was full of anger, which he later realised was a response to the trauma of the occupation and the actions he felt forced to undertake, from a very age, whilst in the Underground. Following his encounter with the orb, he dedicated his life to peace and rebuilding Bajor.

Now, he is a gentle, compassionate individual, but his capacity for violence has not disappeared. He found a home within Starfleet Intelligence, which is a job he often found himself during his days in the Underground and his role sometimes require a level of violence.

Nejim is very spiritual, he takes his faith and belief in the Prophets seriously, following the tenants of his faith and spiritual customs.
Strengths & Weaknesses Nejim was known as the quiet boy by the Resistance at the age of 12, as he opted to learn and watch and take in everybody. He learnt a lot about strategy and guerrilla warfare during this time and several tactics that helped him a great many times over his 10 years fighting the Cardassians. Nejim was often the one who carried out Intelligence gathering operations, due to his size and ability to be quiet.
Ambitions Nejim is not an ambitious man, but after he retires from Starfleet, he intends to settle back on Bajor.
Hobbies & Interests Reading, Martial Arts

Personal History 2319 - Cardassian Occupation Began
April 10th 2347 - Born
2369 - Aged 22, Cardassians leave Bajor

Nejim was born into a Cardassian Labour Camp in 2347. There was no special dispensation made for young mothers or their children and in particular the guards would pick on his Mother more because Nejim was clearly half Cardassian half Bajoran, in particular his Mothers husband, the man who Nejim calls his Father was ridiculed often.

When he was 3 years old, the labour camp was liberated by one of the Underground Resistance Cells. For the next 9 years, his parents attempted to give him the best upbringing that they could, working to expose him to the beauty in their planet, their culture and education but unfortunately the trauma of his youth was already entrenched.

He joined the Resistance and by the time he was 12 and some months later he had killed his first Cardassian. After 5 years in the cell, he went out on operation but when he came back, he discovered the base in ruins. The Cardassian’s had found the base and killed everyone in the camp, including his mother and father, which exasperated his trauma.

Nejim’s role with his cell eventually led him to be within the leaders inner circle, by becoming a de facto intelligence officer, providing the inner circle with advice about the comings and goings of certain bases and information sharing between cells.

When he turned 20, he became involved with fellow member of the resistance and later they were married. Two years later, the day that the Cardassian’s announced they were leaving, yet hours before, his wife and many of his friends were killed.

When the Cardassian’s left, Nejim became lost inside his own anger and trauma, feeling nothing but hatred to towards the Cardassians. The damage to the planet, its infrastructure was catastrophic but the damage done to the Bajoran people was even worse. He was instrumental in setting up a faction calling for War to be declared on Cardassia.

The threats were idle. The Bajoran’s were not in any position to be waging a war until the Maquis appeared within the DMZ, Nejim was going to join the Maquis, but on the day he was due to leave, he had a life changing experience.

After his parents died, Vedek Onjig Tetic took a special interest in him, ensuring that his education continued and offering guidance to the young angry man, often times to no avail, but the Vedek Onjig was one of the few constant things in Nejim’s life.

Tetic believed that Nejim was making a mistake, trying to convince him that the Prophets had a different path for him, but this fell on deaf ears. Nejim’s anger was overwhelming every other sense and anger was safe, he didn’t have to feel.

Tetic decided there was only one final option, he offered Nejim the chance to have an orb experience. Tetic chose the Orb of Change and Prophecy. The orb experience was profound for Nejim, he saw his parents, his wife, his friends and relieved certain experiences in his life, forcing him to accept the pain and hurt it caused him. It forced him to confront it in a way that he had never been able to.

Nejim changed his mind, he didn’t go and join the Maquis. He joined the Bajoran Milita, where he was grandfathered in like most of the Underground were, intent on rebuilding the planet, preserving and safeguarding what was left.

Nejim eventually joined up the Bajoran Intelligence Bureau, with no real job remit. His work was a mixture of gathering intelligence, obtaining it through others and analysing it to ensure that action was taken in response to the intelligence.

In 2375, he, along with several other Bajoran Milita Officers, were ‘absorbed’ into Starfleet. He was very quickly snapped up into Starfleet Intelligence.

He was reassigned, away from Bajor, initially to Earth for some acclimatise into Starfleet. During this time, he was assigned to Starfleet Intelligence, initially a desk job within the Department, however, it wasn’t long before he was assigned to the Defiant Class, USS Thor to serve as their Chief Intelligence Officer. The ship had just been assigned to the Delta Quadrant
